Early reports on Denver area TV news say two BNSF trains collided on the BNSF's Front Range Subd at Boulder, CO, early Friday morning, 23 August 2024. One train is a double stack intermodal train. Crew (s) reported OK with minor injuries - awaiting further details. News reporter (s) just getting set up as of 5:00 AM Friday morning.
The collision occured about 1:45am Sunday morning. The flying natural gas pipe destroyed the cab of both the lead unit and the second unit of the westbound train. For the RR historians out there, BNSF 4479 was the leader of one of the two trains from June 14, 2006 Kismet, CA head-on collision.

The crash site is less than two hours northeast of the Kansas City area, and a Kansas City attorney---Sean Hamer of Scharnhorst Ast Kennard Griffin PC law firm---is representing BNSF in the lawsuit. Another Kansas City attorney---Grant Davis of Davis, Bethune & Jones---is representing dozens of plaintiffs who are suing the railroad.
Railroad officials were investigating the crash. BNSF wrecking and rerailing equipment were on the crash site and the track was expected to reopen at 6 p.m. Authorities late Friday shut down traffic at Waltman, a hamlet about 1l miles west of Powder River. The Wyoming Highway Patrol was allowing only emergency personnel to the crash site.
