The Devils Garden[note 1] of the Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument (GSENM) in south central Utah, United States, is a protected area featuring hoodoos, natural arches and other sandstone formations. The area is also known as the Devils Garden Outstanding Natural Area within the National Landscape Conservation System.

[13] It was on September 18, 1996, at the height of the 1996 presidential election campaign by President Bill Clinton, that the national monument was declared and was controversial from the moment of creation.
Located on the popular Devils Garden Trail, the arch was known to have precarious support – a slab of rock broke off and fell nearly 40 years earlier, according to the Utah Geological Survey.

Arches National Park. Arches National Park is a national park of the United States in eastern Utah. The park is adjacent to the Colorado River, 4 mi (6 km) north of Moab, Utah. The park contains more than 2,000 natural sandstone arches, including the well-known Delicate Arch, which constitute the highest density of natural arches in the world.
The arch is among many in the Devils Garden area in the north of the park. Landscape Arch was named by Frank Beckwith who explored the area in the winter of 1933–1934 as the leader of an Arches National Monument scientific expedition. The arch can be reached by a 0.8 mi (1.3 km) graded gravel trail. [3] [4]
The formation comprises two large arches stacked on top of each other in the same fin of rock. The larger "O" stretches 71 feet (22 meters) across while the smaller arch below measures approximately 21 feet (6.4 meters) across. [3] The arch can be reached via a 4.1-mile (6.6-kilometer) strenuous round trip hike on the Devils Garden Trail. [4]
