Rosa section Caninae is one of several sections of the genus Rosa.It includes Rosa canina, commonly known as the dog rose. [1]The group can be further subdivided into several subsections:
Physocarpus capitatus is a dense deciduous shrub growing to 1–2.5 metres (3 + 1 ⁄ 2 –8 feet) tall. The reddish-gray bark, which is flaky and peels away in many irregular thin layers.
They are a part of the rose family (Rosaceae) and related to the apple. The botanical genus name derives from the Greek word photeinos for shiny and refers to the often glossy leaves. Most species are evergreen, but deciduous species also occur. The small apple-shaped fruit has a size of 4 to 12 mm and forms in large quantities.
The dog rose is a deciduous shrub normally ranging in height from 1–5 metres (3 + 1 ⁄ 2 – 16 + 1 ⁄ 2 ft), though it can scramble higher into the crowns of taller trees. Its multiple arching stems, [2] are covered with small, sharp, hooked prickles, which aid it in climbing.
The species grow to between 0.5–2 m (1.6–6.6 ft) tall, with interrupted pinnate leaves, and tiny yellow flowers borne on a single (usually unbranched) spike. Agrimonia species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including grizzled skipper (recorded on A. eupatoria) and large grizzled skipper.
Torminalis is a genus of plants in the rose family, Rosaceae. [2] The genus was formerly included within the genus Sorbus as the section Torminaria, but the simple-leafed species traditionally classified in Sorbus are now considered to form a separate monophyletic group. [3]
