Argentina and Cuba share a common history in the fact that both nations were once part of the Spanish Empire. In 1816, Argentina obtained its independence and in 1902, Cuba obtained its independence after the Spanish–American War. On 12 May 1909, Argentina and Cuba officially established diplomatic relations. [1]

Alberto Granado Jiménez (August 8, 1922 – March 5, 2011) was an Argentine–Cuban biochemist, doctor, author, and scientist. A youthful friend and traveling companion of Che Guevara during their 1952 motorcycle tour in Latin America, Granado later founded the University of Santiago de Cuba School of Medicine.

The bombo should not be confused with the Puerto Rican bomba , a genre of music played with hand drums called barriles de bomba (bomba barrels), which are unrelated to the European bass drums.
