The Atlanta Stove Works company was founded in 1889 (originally named Georgia Stove Company) to produce cast-iron stoves. Initially, their business boomed to the point where in 1902, a separate foundry was built in Birmingham, Alabama, especially for the production of hollow ware and cast-iron cookware to supplement their stoves.
The district encompasses six contributing buildings associated with a large cast iron stove manufacturer. The district developed between about 1904 and 1953, and all six buildings are in a simple industrial, factory style, with minimal architectural embellishment and have flat, low-pitch and gabled roofs. John S. Perry started building wood stoves in 1843. [2] After becoming bankrupt in 1860, Perry secured a loan in the amount of $13,000 to buy the company in 1862.
