Brda (Montenegrin Cyrillic and Serbian Cyrillic: Брда, meaning Highlands or Hills) refers to a historical and ethnographical region in Montenegro.The Brda are one of the country's four historic tribal regions, along with Old Montenegro, Old Herzegovina and the Montenegrin Littoral.
The first site in Montenegro to be added to the list was Natural and Culturo-Historical Region of Kotor, inscribed at the 3rd UNESCO session in 1979. [3] Durmitor National Park was inscribed in 1980 and extended in 2005. [4] These two sites were first added to the list when Montenegro was still a part of Yugoslavia.
Rijeka Crnojevića was the historical seat of the Riječka nahija, [4] one of the four territorial units of Old Montenegro. The town used to the second most important town in Montenegro, with residence of the Petrović dynasty placed in the place, being the first building, soon followed by other buildings gradually forming urban settlement.

The toponym derives from a Slavicized variant of the Albanian masculine name Lesh ().According to a local tradition, the ancestor arrived from the city of Lezhë, however the actual name is regarded as being much older since as early as 1496 Đurađ Crnojević mentions the nobleman Radovan Lъšević (Lješević) in the area of Lješanska nahija, while its inhabitants as Lьšane (Lješane).
