The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD / ˈ r ɪ z d iː /, pronounced "Riz-D" [3]) is a private art and design school in Providence, Rhode Island. In the past RISD offered football to their boys for three seasons during the 1930s, and field hockey and softball to their girls for several seasons during the late 1970s and early 1980s. RISD fielded cheerleading teams from 1970 through 2003. RISD's cheerleading teams won two NESD championships as well as six ESDAA cheerleading competitions.
Opened in 1969 as "Lake Highlands Stadium", RISD's Wildcat-Ram Stadium is located on the western border of the campus. The stadium is shared with L.V. Berkner High School as the Berkner campus is home to a natatorium but not a full size stadium. The facility seats approximately 9,000 and was upgraded to field turf in 2000.

Helen Adelia Rowe was born in Providence, Rhode Island on July 17, 1830. [1] [2] On November 22, 1852, she married Jesse Metcalf Sr. [3] Jesse Metcalf was a cotton buyer in the South for several years prior to the Civil War, later becoming a textile manufacturer in Providence and co-founding the Wanskuck Company in 1862 in the Wanskuck area of Providence.
