The original broadcast of The Texan aired 8:00–8:30 Monday evenings from September 1958 to September 1960 on CBS. ABC aired reruns of the program during its weekday lineup from October 1960 to March 1962, and then as part of its Saturday morning lineup from February to May 1962.

Rorvic Productions produced the television series The Texan, three feature films, and two television films, all starring Calhoun. [2] The Hired Gun, released in 1957, was the first film produced by Rorvic Productions. [3] Rorvic also produced Domino Kid (1957) and Apache Territory (1958). [4]
Weekly B & W episodes were 30 minutes in length from 1957-1961. The program expanded to an hour and switched to color for its final season in 1961-1962. The show originally was produced by Nat Holt whom Robertson felt he owed his career to for giving him his first leading roles. [ 9 ]

In 1958, on the recommendation of studio boss Desi Arnaz, Calhoun co-produced and starred in the television series The Texan, which aired on Monday evenings until 1960. He said in a 1959 article that the only two good films he made were With a Song in My Heart and How to Marry a Millionaire , with the rest being "terrible".
