After going through downtown Oviedo, SR 434 is called Alafaya Trail from its intersection with Mitchell Hammock Road south to the Orange County line to its end at SR 50 (Colonial Drive). The road continues south as Alafaya Trail only without the state road designation. Alafaya meets with State Road 50 in Union Park, FL.

It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is most known for being near the University of Central Florida, Avalon Park and Waterford Lakes.
Avalon Park covers 1,860 acres (7.5 km 2) of land in southeastern Orange County, east of Alafaya Trail and south of State Road 50.Avalon Park is one of several New Urban communities in the Orlando metro area; other examples include Celebration, Florida and Baldwin Park.
