In 2015, a fifth institute was set up by the MHRD in Kurnool, [5] as part as the government obligation under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. [7] Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2017 granted the INI status to the Kurnool institute.
Simultaneously, the foundation stone was laid at the 548-acre tract of land allocated by the Government of Andhra Pradesh near Yerpedu village to facilitate the establishment of a permanent campus for the Institute. The campus is being developed in multiple stages.
