Sweet was born August 15, 1934, [2] in Highland Park, New Jersey. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1956 with a degree in fine arts. [3] Sweet began designing book covers for Ballantine Books in 1974. He moved to Del Rey Books in 1975, when Judy-Lynn del Rey hired him to produce the front cover for Fritz Leiber's novel Gather, Darkness!. [4]
Subtitled "Another Take on 'Girlfriend'", Goodfriend was a promotional CD partly distributed through Sweet's fan club, and was not commercially released until the Legacy Edition. [23] "Goodfriend" was the original name of the title track, but after early listeners universally misheard the lyric, Sweet changed the title to "Girlfriend".
In 2000, Sweet contributed lyrics and vocals to the song, "Daylight", on the Delerium album, Poem. Give Us a Wink is the fourth studio album by British rock band Sweet.It was the first album to be fully written and produced by the band members. Previously they had relied on material from the songwriting team of Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman.
Under the Covers, Vol. 1 is the first collaboration between alternative rock artist Matthew Sweet and Bangles singer/guitarist Susanna Hoffs.Released by Shout!Factory in 2006, the album contains 15 cover versions of songs from the 1960s and 1970s.
