VISD serves the city of Victoria, the Quail Creek census-designated place, portions of the Inez CDP, [1] and the unincorporated community of McFaddin. Middle and high school students from the community of Nursery may choose between Victoria ISD or Cuero Independent School District .

The VISD Board of Trustees named the high school after O.C. Stroman, affectionately called “the father of Victoria tennis.” By his retirement in 1964, Stroman had the longest tenure of any teacher in the Victoria public school system. He served as a tennis coach from 1932 to 1964, and he died in 1965. [6]
Venus High School is a 4A High School. All Venus schools have the same mascot, a bulldog. The music department includes band students grades 6-12. In 2015, the voters of Venus Independent School District approved a $31 million bond to add to existing facilities and the construction of new buildings. [2]

On March 15, 1919, Common School District No. 4 in Hidalgo County became Pharr-San Juan Independent School District. Forty years later in 1959, Alamo merged with the district, establishing what is now known as the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District, a district that caters to over 31,000 students in the tri-city area.
