Anza-Borrego Desert State Park (/ ˈ æ n z ə b ə ˈ r eɪ ɡ oʊ /, AN-zə bə-RAY-goh) is a California State Park located within the Colorado Desert of Southern California, United States. Created in 1932, the park takes its name from 18th century Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza and borrego , a Spanish word for sheep. [ 2 ]
It continues east, turns north onto Peg Leg Road, and turns east again onto Borrego Salton Sea Way. CR S22 enters Imperial County, runs through Anza-Borrego Desert State Park again and ends at a junction with State Route 86 in Salton City, a community on the shore of the Salton Sea. Anza Borrego Desert State Park acquired property to the north of the community in 1998, making Shelter Valley the second community (the first being nearby Borrego Springs) to be entirely surrounded by the park.
