Northparkes is a copper and gold mine in central New South Wales, Australia, approximately 27 kilometres north-northwest of the town of Parkes. [1] The mine was originally started in 1994 using open pit mining, with underground mining using the block caving method starting in 1997.
The Wentworth site is highly significant for its intact collection of mining infrastructure and ability to demonstrate the continuity of gold mining activity on the site over a 100-year time frame. The presence of an intact stamper battery building complete with ten head stamper battery and ore tables is exceptional and a rare example in NSW.

The mine started in August 1960, with coal production commencing in 1961. The Wallarah, Great Northern and Fassifern coal seams have been mined using board and pillar, Miniwall and currently Herringbone mining methods. Coal is transported to the Vales Power Station by an overland conveyor system via Mannering Colliery (Wyee State Colliery).
