Lewiston School District #1 is the school district in Lewiston, Idaho. It has seven elementary schools , two middle schools , [ 3 ] one high school , and one alternative high school . Established 144 years ago in 1880 by the territorial legislature, the school district is the state's oldest; it preceded Idaho statehood by ten years.
Lewiston High School is a four-year public secondary school in Lewiston, Idaho, the only traditional high school in the Lewiston School District. This is only a recent development though, the change being implemented in 2020-21 school year. The school colors of LHS are purple and gold and the mascot is Joe Bengal.
The elementary campus in Lewiston houses grades pre-school through five and the junior/senior high school campus in Auburn houses grades six through twelve. The total enrollment the combined school stands at 600. In May 2021, students and parents protested the firing of academy president and high school principal Tim Gallic.
