On August 31, 2006, Nara Dreamland permanently closed after 45 years of service. According to YouTube series Defunctland, on the park's last day, there was an event celebrating the park before its closure, although very few people attended. Nara Dreamland was left abandoned for 10 years before the start of its demolition on October 2016. [3]

While it is rumored Walt initially agreed to the idea, he later dropped out of it. Matsuo, still determined to open his Disney-themed park, opened Nara Dreamland in 1961, a near replica of Disneyland except without Disney's characters or intellectual property. This park would continue to operate until 2006, and was eventually demolished in 2017.

Yokohama Dreamland was an amusement park that operated in Totsuka, Yokohama, Japan from 1964 to 2002. The management company, Japan Dream Tourism , was acquired by the supermarket chain Daiei in 1993, and the amusement park closed permanently on February 17, 2002, due to financial issues.
