A close-up of an open Band-Aid. Band-Aid is a brand of adhesive bandages distributed by the consumer health company Kenvue, spun off from Johnson & Johnson in 2023. [3] Invented in 1920, the brand has become a generic term for adhesive bandages in countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, and others.
The most common type of bandage is the gauze bandage, a woven strip of material with a Telfa absorbent barrier to prevent adhering to wounds. A gauze bandage can come in any number of widths and lengths and can be used for almost any bandage application, including holding a dressing in place.
An entirely transparent adhesive bandage, with a transparent hydrogel pad and adhesive waterproof plastic film (removable backing is blue and white). The backing and bag are often made of coated paper, but may be made of plastic. The adhesive sheet is usually a woven fabric, plastic (PVC, polyethylene or polyurethane), or latex strip.
Pre-expanded beads of polystyrene are injected into a preheated aluminum mold at low pressure. Steam is then applied to the polystyrene which causes it to expand more to fill the die. The final pattern is approximately 97.5% air and 2.5% polystyrene. Pre-made pouring basins, runners, and risers can be hot glued to the pattern to finish it. [1]
Nexcare is 3M's personal health care brand. The brand competes with Johnson & Johnson's Band-Aid brand in the adhesive bandage and first aid market. [1] [2] The brand also sells similar products such as bandages, gauze, surgical tape, cold sore treatment and liquid bandage products.
Sizzix is the brand name of a product range of home die-cutting machines and embossing machines manufactured by Ellison. [1] The machines are used for cutting materials such as paper, fabric, vellum, metal and other materials that scissors can cut. [2]
A board is then placed on top of the drag and the drag is flipped over. Then, the cope is placed on the drag, and dowels (or pins) are put in the sand to make holes for the sprue and one or more risers. Talcum powder and sand are again sifted over the pattern, and rammed to fill the cope. The pins are then carefully pulled out of the sand.
A bandage is a piece of fabric used to cover, dress, and bind wounds. Bandages are typically manufactured from various textile materials. The dressing or splint is held in place using a bandage. Bandages are also used for medical purposes (strengthening and compressing) to support and restrict specific body parts. [56] [6]: 142
