Antmusic: The Very Best of Adam Ant is a greatest hits compilation album from Adam Ant that covers his early work with Adam and the Ants as well as his solo work. "Antmusic" is the broad term Adam Ant uses to describe his music, both solo and with Adam and the Ants. It is also the name of the third single from the Adam and the Ants album Kings of the Wild Frontier and a 1994 compilation album.
Adam and the Ants began performing around London while Ant acted in Derek Jarman's film Jubilee in 1977. They were initially managed by Jordan from the SEX boutique on Kings Road . His debut as a recording artist was the song " Deutscher Girls ", which featured on the film's soundtrack, along with "Plastic Surgery" which was performed in the film.
There are two versions of the cover. The first has Adam and the Ants across the top of the sleeve and the later version just Adam Ant. This is probably due to the confusion around the timing of Ant going solo, particularly as the song was performed by three fifths of the band: Ant, Pirroni and Hughes.
This album repositioned Adam as a more mature pop-rocker, with crafted songs that featured acoustic guitars as prominently as electric ones. The album was a moderate hit in the USA and UK, as was the single "Wonderful" which became Ant's third American Top 40 hit single. This was the first Adam Ant album to be released in the USA before the UK.
It was released in 1983 and a stylistic departure from Ant's previous musical efforts. This record is much less rock-oriented and more grounded in pop and dance. The track features Adam Ant on vocals and bass guitar, Pironi on guitar, Jeff Daly on saxophone, Martin Drover on trumpet and Bogdan Wiczling on drums. An alternate version with Chris "Merrick" Hughes on drums appears on Antbox. The music video, which received heavy rotation on MTV, was directed by Adam Ant himself.
