Oregon Route 255 (OR 255) is an Oregon state highway running from U.S. Route 101 (US 101) near Gold Beach to US 101 near Brookings. OR 255 is known as the Carpenterville Highway No. 255 (see Oregon highways and routes). It is 27.60 miles (44.42 km) long and runs north–south, entirely within Curry County.
Brookings is located along the southern Oregon coast at the mouth of the Chetco River. According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 3.94 square miles (10.20 km 2 ), of which 3.87 square miles (10.02 km 2 ) is land and 0.07 square miles (0.18 km 2 ) is water.
The stretch of US 101 between Brookings and Gold Beach includes the highest bridge in Oregon, the Thomas Creek Bridge. With its roadbed at 345 feet (105 m) above Thomas Creek, it is the 15th highest bridge in the U.S. North of Bandon, US 101 heads inland for a while, while a spur route provides access to the Charleston Peninsula.

A national park on the southern Oregon Coast was proposed in the late 1930s; it was to encompass 30,000 acres (12,000 ha) from Gold Beach to Brookings. A Congressional bill to formally create the national park was introduced in 1940, but it was never realized. [ 6 ]
