The LM-1 was designed by the American engineer and guitarist Roger Linn in the late 1970s. [1] Linn was dissatisfied with drum machines available at the time, such as the Roland CR-78, and wanted a machine that did not simply play preset patterns and "sound like crickets".
The Linn 9000 was Roger Linn's first attempt to create an integrated sampling/sequencing/MIDI workstation, but it was plagued with problems from the beginning. [5] [6] On early models, the power supply over-heated the CPU and had to be replaced under warranty, but insurmountable issues with the Linn 9000's operating system forced its eventual demise.
The LinnDrum was designed by the American engineer Roger Linn. [4] It was cheaper and more widely produced than his first drum machine, the Linn LM-1, which had been affordable only to wealthy musicians and studios. [4] [5] [6]

Roger Linn and Dave Smith announced co-development of a drum machine product, originally to be called BoomChik, but changed to LinnDrum II in December 2007, a reference to one of Linn's early popular drum machines: the LinnDrum. The LinnDrum II was renamed the Tempest, and co-released by Roger Linn Designs and Dave Smith Instruments in 2011.
The first drum machine to use samples of real drum kits, the Linn LM-1, was introduced in 1980 and was adopted by rock and pop artists including Prince [2] and Michael Jackson. [3] In the late 1990s, software emulations began to overtake the popularity of physical drum machines housed in a separate plastic or metal chassis.
The LinnDrum Midistudio (also known as the Midistudio) was going to be an electronic musical instrument produced by Linn Electronics as the successor to the ill-fated Linn 9000, which was an integrated digital sampling drum machine and MIDI sequencer. The Midistudio is essentially a rack-mount version of the Linn 9000 with some improvements. [1]
ValhallaDSP says this reverb is best for the sound of "old school digital hardware reverbs". [13] One review feels that while it is excellent for getting the unreal larger than life sound of a classic Lexicon reverb, it does not work as a subtle reverb effect and is not a reverb for every occasion.
