GoBots is a line of transforming robot toys produced by Tonka from 1983 to 1987, similar to Hasbro's Transformers. [1] [2]Although initially a separate and competing line of toys, Tonka's Gobots became the intellectual property of Hasbro after their buyout of Tonka in 1991.
The toyline was imported to the west by toy manufacturer Tonka and released under the name Gobots, with its animated series released in 1984. Both in Japan and in the West, Machine Robo's main competition was The Transformers , whose animated series debuted in Japan in 1985.

Challenge of the GoBots (or GoBots for short) is an American animated series produced by Hanna-Barbera, based on the GoBots toyline released from Tonka. [1] The show was first broadcast in syndication on September 8, 1984, [2] then the show joined the weekday/weekend programming block The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera on September 15, 1985.

In 1994, the final year of Generation 2 saw many of the toys in its line packaged on cards that did not carry the "Generation 2" subtitle under the Transformers name. The two most prominent lines under this banner were the Cyberjets and the Go-Bots (using a trademark acquired by Hasbro from Tonka).
