Newington is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States.The town is part of the Capitol Planning Region.Located 8 miles (13 km) south of downtown Hartford, Newington is an older, mainly residential suburb located in Greater Hartford.
In 1940, the section north of the junction with Route 176 was transferred to Routes 176 and 176A. At the same time, Route 175 was extended east along former SR 775 to the Silas Deane Highway (then Route 9). In 1968, a section in Newington and Wethersfield was rerouted slightly to the north.
US 5 and Route 15 run for 10 miles (16 km) along the Berlin Turnpike within the towns of Berlin, Newington, and Wethersfield. The Berlin Turnpike is mostly a four-lane arterial road with some six-lane sections and is the alignment of the old Hartford and New Haven Turnpike. In Berlin, it has an interchange with the Route 9 freeway.
Newington Junction is a section of the town of Newington, Connecticut, United States. It is centered at the intersection of Willard Avenue ( Route 173 ) and West Hill Road in the northwestern part of the town, in the area generally just south of the Hartford city line.
The turnpike has grade-separated interchange with Route 9 and Route 372 in Berlin, as well as Route 175 on the border between Newington and Wethersfield. [1] In Wethersfield, US 5 and Route 15 leave the turnpike for the controlled-access Wilbur Cross Highway heading towards Hartford.
