[4] It is a large fruit tree, capable of growing to a height and width of 30 m (100 ft). [5] There are two distinct genetic populations in modern mangoes – the "Indian type" and the "Southeast Asian type". [6]
Mangifera species are widely cultivated in Asia and elsewhere. More than 27 species in the genus bear edible, fleshy fruits, especially the common mango (M. indica).
