Interstate 74 (I-74) in the US state of Illinois is a major northwest–southeast Interstate Highway that runs across the central portion of the state. It runs from the Iowa state line at the Mississippi River near the city of Rock Island and runs southeast to the Indiana state line east of Danville, a distance of 220.34 miles (354.60 km). [2]

In 1935, IL 6 was decommissioned and was replaced with a portion of US 330 (now IL 38/Roosevelt Road) and US 30. [5] The Illinois Route 6 designation remained decommissioned until the early 1980s when the present freeway north of Peoria was finished. [6] By 1988, the freeway was extended to Illinois Route 29 near Mossville. [7]

Knoxville is served with two exits on Interstate 74, at U.S. Highway 150 east of town and at Henderson Road north of town. U.S. Highway 150 runs east and west through Knoxville and serves as the main business thoroughfare. Illinois Route 97 and Knox County Highway 8 also enter the city. It then turns east in Knoxville. East of Knoxville, it meets IL 97 at a 3-way intersection and then I-74 at a partial cloverleaf interchange. It then meets IL 180 south of Williamsfield. South of Laura, US 150 turns south via IL 78 for around three miles (4.8 km). Just south of where IL 78 branches off west, US 150 suddenly turns southeast.
