State Trunk Highway 16 (often called Highway 16, STH-16 or WIS 16) is a Wisconsin state highway running from Pewaukee across the state to La Crosse. Much of its route in the state parallels the former mainline of the Milwaukee Road and current mainline of the Canadian Pacific Railway .
Wisconsin Highway 10 (WIS 10) was a state trunk highway that traveled roughly along the following present-day routes: U.S. Highway 51: WIS 10 traveled along the entirety of US 51 in Wisconsin. U.S. Highway 2: WIS 10 traveled along most of the western portion of US 2 from Ironwood to Superior.
The highway then follows WIS 16/WIS 71, running concurrently east for about 1 ⁄ 2 mile (0.80 km) before turning north off the concurrency. WIS 21 proceeds northeast, following the La Crosse River and passes through Fort McCoy. The highway then turns eastward and follows alongside the Tarr and Sparta creeks, passing through Tunnel City.
