The Elephant Hotel is a historic former hotel which today serves as the town hall in Somers, in Westchester County, New York, United States.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on August 7, 1974 as Somers Town House and designated a National Historic Landmark in 2005 as Elephant Hotel. [1]
Luis Marin, who was employed by the hotel at the time of the fire as a busboy, was arrested following a four-month investigation by the Westchester County District Attorney's Office. [6] Marin was indicted by a Westchester County Grand Jury, [2] and convicted by a jury of arson and 26 counts of murder on April 10, 1982. [6]
In late winter, early spring 2008, the Kutsher family entered into an option agreement with Louis Cappelli of Westchester County, New York to bring management changes and ownership of the hotel. [19] The sale was not finalized, but renovations were carried out, and the establishment was re-opened as 'The New Kutsher's Resort & Spa' . [20]
It operated as a hotel [8] and spa until November 2024. Overlooking the Hudson River valley, it is located on the highest point of Westchester County, about 20 miles (32 km) north of the George Washington Bridge.
