Sheridan Road is a major north-south street that leads from Diversey Parkway [1] in Chicago, Illinois, north to the Illinois-Wisconsin border and beyond to Racine.Throughout most of its run, it is the easternmost north-south through street, closest to Lake Michigan.

IL 43 was originally part of what is now US 136 and IL 10 from Havana to Mason City. [3] By 1935, IL 43 was moved to what is now IL 4 from Olive Township to Oraville. [4] By 1964, IL 4 supplanted all of IL 43. [5] In 1967, Illinois Route 42A, which originally followed Waukegan Road and Harlem Avenue, was decommissioned and was replaced by IL 43.

The Waukegan National Bank Corporation was founded in 1914 to provide capital to the growing population. However, the bank quickly outgrew its original three-story headquarters at the corner of Genesee and Washington Streets. In 1924, they hired the St. Louis Bank Equipment Company to build a much larger building on the same site.
