Siaton (Cebuano: Lungsod sa Siaton; Tagalog: Bayan ng Siaton), officially the Municipality of Siaton, is a municipality and the southernmost settlement in the province of Negros Oriental, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 83,082 people.
In 1901, the Negros Oriental province was reorganized by the United States and a civil government was established, with Demetrio Larena as governor. The American government made Siquijor a "sub-province" of Negros Oriental. Negros Oriental became a province under the American civil government on March 10, 1917, through Act 2711. [6]
The district consists of the southernmost parts of the province that were previously included in Negros Oriental's 2nd district. It contains the city of Bayawan and the municipalities immediately to the south and west of the provincial capital city, Dumaguete, namely Bacong, Basay, Dauin, Santa Catalina, Siaton, Valencia and Zamboanguita. 28 kilometres (17 mi) from Dumaguete, Zamboanguita is at the southern tip of the province of Negros Oriental and across from the island province of Siquijor. To the west of Zamboanguita is the municipality of Siaton, and to the north/east is the municipality of Dauin.
