The Grumman F6F Hellcat is an American carrier-based fighter aircraft of World War II. Designed to replace the earlier F4F Wildcat and to counter the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero , it was the United States Navy 's dominant fighter in the second half of the Pacific War .

Fighter Squadron 15 or VF-15 was an aviation unit of the United States Navy.Originally established on 1 September 1943, it was disestablished on 20 October 1945. The Grumman F6F Hellcat would be the standard fighter, the Douglas SBD Dauntless, the standard scout aircraft and dive bomber which was later replaced by the Curtiss SB2C Helldiver, and the Grumman TBF Avenger as the torpedo bomber, but also often used in other attack roles.
