Turanga Leela is a fictional character from the animated television series Futurama. Leela is spaceship captain, pilot , and head of all aviation services on board the Planet Express Ship . Throughout the series, she has an on-again, off-again relationship with Philip J. Fry , the central character in the series.
Leela was the daughter of Sole. She first appears in the 1977 serial The Face of Evil.She is a warrior of the savage Sevateem tribe, who were amongst the descendants of the crew of an Earth starship from the Mordee Expedition that crash-landed on an unnamed planet in the far future.
Lrrr is reluctantly forced to prove his love for Ndnd by shooting Leela, whom he values as a friend, with the disintegration ray. As he fires, Fry leaps in front of Leela, sacrificing his life. Ndnd is moved by Lrrr's demonstration of love and the two happily depart back to Omicron Persei 8. Leela is devastated by Fry's sacrifice.
