This famous verse continues the discussion of wealth, and makes explicit what was implied in Matthew 6:21: a person cannot pursue both material goods and spiritual well-being. Luke 12 is the 12th chapter of the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament of the Christian Bible.It records a number of teachings and parables told by Jesus Christ when "an innumerable multitude of people had gathered together", but addressed "first of all" to his disciples.
Paul also speaks ill of wealth in 1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV), "for the love of money is the root of all evil". In terms of being full, St. Basil writes, "to live for pleasure alone is to make a god of one’s stomach" (Phil. 3:19). [4] St. Gregory writes that from the single vice of gluttony come innumerable others which fight against the soul.
A version of the parable also occurs in the non-canonical Gospel of Thomas 20. [22] The plant referred to here is generally considered to be black mustard, a large annual plant up to 9 feet (2.7 m) tall, [23] but growing from a proverbially small seed: [23] this smallness is also used to refer to faith in Matthew 17:20 and Luke 17:6.
