The Browning A-Bolt 3, or just "AB3," is Browning's value bolt-action rifle. Previously tested in .270 Winchester with a plastic stock, it proved to be a sub-MOA (three shots) 100 yard rifle. In order to lower cost, corners were cut from the better-finished X-Bolt line.
The AB3 is Browning’s hat in the ring on an inexpensive bolt action rifle. It combines components cheaper than their more premium X-Bolt (X-Bolt review here) while still offering some of the premium Browning features.
I have a 1991 Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker (model 1 I guess) in .300 Win. mag. and love it. That 3 lug bolt is sweet. .300 Win. mag has a lot more bullet weights, styles and brands available than the 7 mm.
Recently veteran gunwriter Stan Trzoniec reviewed the Browning AB3 Hunter for Rifle Shooter Magazine, and declared the wood-stocked beauty “…A winner for nimrods and veterans alike.” “Browning introduced the A-Bolt 3 (AB3) a couple of years ago,” Trzoniec began.
The AB3 is well built and value priced whereas the X-Bolt and A-Bolt are premium built bolt action rifles. As far as I know the AB3 is the first firearm that Browning has ever built value oriented. It's definitely not your typical Browning. I think if you are in the market for an "entry level Browning" the AB3 is going to be a great rifle for you.
