With Anne Green as festival producer, Wordfest's first festival featured 50 authors and two dozen events over the course of four days. 1997 marked the incorporation of Wordfest as a not-for-profit, and also was the first year of the Summit Salon writers' retreat hosted by the Banff Centre, which immediately followed the festivals for years.
