The University Graduate School was established by the UP Board of Regents on October 26, 1950 and is mandated to administer the graduate programs in the Los Baños unit through a sub-committee. The UPLB Graduate school was formally established on December 21, 1972 upon the establishment of the autonomous units of the university under the UP System.

In 1974, the world's first degree programs in development communication was offered by what was renamed the Department of Development Communication. [13] It was again renamed when it was elevated into an institute (Institute of Development Communication) in 1987. It was elevated into a full college of UPLB on 18 December 1998. [5]
