Siberian chipmunks usually live solitary lives, but during the winter they create a burrow, which they often share with another chipmunk. [ 3 ] [ 9 ] Its burrow, which can be 2.5 m (8 ft 2 in) long and 1.5 m (4 ft 11 in) deep, consists of a nest chamber, several storage chambers and chambers for the waste.
Eutamias is a genus of chipmunks within the tribe Marmotini of the squirrel family. It includes a single living species, the Siberian chipmunk (Eutamias sibiricus).The genus is often treated as a subgenus of Tamias, which is now restricted to the eastern chipmunk of North America. [1]
Chipmunks may be classified either as a single genus, Tamias, or as three genera: Tamias, of which the eastern chipmunk (T. striatus) is the only living member; Eutamias, of which the Siberian chipmunk (E. sibiricus) is the only living member; and Neotamias, which includes the 23 remaining, mostly western North American, species.
Eutamias sibiricus lineatus. The Ezo chipmunk is a subspecies [4] or local population [5] of the Siberian chipmunk; it is found in what was once known as Ezo, namely HokkaidÅ, Japan, and Sakhalin and the Southern Kuriles, Russia.
Description. [edit] A small species, it reaches about 30 cm (12 in) in length including the tail, and a weight of 66–150 g (2.3–5.3 oz). [ 15 ] It has reddish-brown fur on its upper body and five dark brown stripes contrasting with light brown stripes along its back, ending in a dark tail. It has lighter fur on the lower part of its body.

Distribution of Alpine chipmunk. Alpine chipmunks only live in high Sierra Nevada, from Yosemite National Park in the north, to Olancha Peak in the south. They have been observed at altitudes from around 2,300 meters (7,500 ft) [6] to 3,900 meters (12,800 ft), [7] though they rarely occur below 2,500 meters (8,200 ft).
