Daiwa new "J" Braid #8 lb. or Power Pro #8 lb. braid with a 5' section of #4 lb. ~ #6 lb. mono or FC line joining the two with a Modified Albright (i.e. Crazy Alberto) knot . Tied properly , the knot will go through the guides just fine - just make sure not to reel the knot actually into the reel to prevent a snag / delay while casting which ...
Sufix 832, Original PowerPro and Slick 8, Smackdown, Tuftline, Spiderwire, YGK, some pricy JDM Monai line... and even some Chinese Seaknight S9, as long as you choose the right diameter and poundage for the job.
I think it's amusing what is considered ultra light. I regularly use 8lb Fireline for about 80% of my smallmouth and largemouth fishing mostly on medium and medium light spinning reels. My 1,500 yard spool is getting low so I just bought a 600yd spool of #10 Suffix 832. If they made it in 8lb, I'd have bought that.
I have a few reels that are 30+ years old, and a pair that are 50+ that still get used. I either have braid, or have had braid on all of them. The only real difference I notice between them and newer reels is newer reels tend to have textured spools so that the braid doesn't slip around the spool.
For bass fishing on spinning reels, I use 10-20. Anything over 20 and casting distance suffers greatly, also the bigger diameter bouyant braids effect the techniques I use a spinning reel for. Dont fully lock down the drag and you'll be fine. If you need to turn a fish just grab the spool so you dont pay out line and put the screws to em.
I have a 300 size spinning reel that I want to give braid a try one. I probably will be going with 832 Sufix braid for this. Mostly going to use it for finesse stuff like wacky rigging or T-rigging Senkos, shaky heads, possibly some straight down vertical fishing too. What pound test should I go ...
The single best braid I've used on spinning tackle in PE#1.2 (25-lb) is YGK BornRush. I was zinging light lures into coast wind with it this past weekend. Varivas 8 is a close second. Varivas is easy to find, with a US website and Amazon store. Florida Fishing Products Distance braid is made by Varivas, and I fished a spool 4 years.
10# or 15# Sufix 832 on my spinning reels. I would always use a leader with braid on a spinning reel. To me the "no leader" situations seem to be where visibility is not an issue, like muddy water, fishing a frog over heavy vegetation or pitching a jig into heavy cover/punching.
The Sustain is a high quality spinning reel...the 4000 weigh a little over 10 oz with IPT pushing 40” and 50 lb braid capacity over 170 yds. 4000 is a Large size for a fresh water spinning reel. Tom
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER try to pull the line off the spinning rig with a tight drag. 5. Loosen spinning reel's drag when storing your reel. As for a "brand" of line, it is totally personal preferance. I use Trileen and Bass Pro Shop line for fun fishing and Seaguar and 100% flourocarbon Trileen for tournaments.
