The Red River Gorge is a canyon system on the Red River in east-central Kentucky, United States. Geologically it is part of the Pottsville Escarpment . The gorge lies within the Daniel Boone National Forest and was subsequently designated the Red River Gorge Geological Area , an area of around 29,000 acres (12,000 ha; 120 km 2 ; 45 sq mi). [ 1 ]

Natural Bridge State Park is a member of the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, and offers guided backpacking trips and natural history educational programs. Annual events open to the public include Herpetology Weekend each May, Natural Arches Weekend each February, and the Kentucky Native Plant Society's Wildflower Weekend each April.
The Red River Gorge is also a world-renowned rock climbing destination. A 2021 study estimated that climbers spend nearly $8.7 million annually in the five counties around the gorge.
The area's also great for taking in easy-to-walk-to waterfalls like Glen Ellis Falls and Arethusa Falls, and the kids will enjoy venturing around the Lost River Gorge and Boulder Caves.

It flows generally west, through Red River Gorge in the Daniel Boone National Forest, then past Stanton and Clay City. It joins the Kentucky approximately 11 miles (18 km) southeast of Winchester . In 1993, a 20-mile (32 km) stretch of the river in the Red River Gorge was designated by the federal government as a National Wild and Scenic River .
