In all four corners of Darbar Sahib, the Holy Tank (Sarovar) was cleaned by Sikhs. In the early 1980s, a big hall was built to replace many Old Sikh period buildings. In 2005 the whole of Darbar Sahib was renovated. It was plated in new gold, and inside the Darbar Sahib new work was done.

Darbar Sahib worship takes place in the Diwan Hall (prayer hall). In the Diwan Hall, people play worship hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib. People visiting the Gurdwara sit on the floor, often cross-legged, as pointing one's feet towards an object or person — in this case, the Guru Granth Sahib — may be mistaken as disrespectful according to cultural norms.
Langar hall from inside. Harmandir Sahib complex has a Langar, a community-run free kitchen and dining hall. It is attached to the east side of the courtyard near the Dukh Bhanjani Ber, outside of the entrance. Food is served here to all visitors who want it, regardless of faith, gender or economic background.
