Yuridia was born in Hermosillo, Sonora, but grew up in Mesa, Arizona. She considers Mesa to be her hometown. [5] She is the oldest of five. She had two brothers and two sisters, but her younger brother Danny suffered from muscular dystrophy. He died in Mesa at age 15 in December 2005. The death of her brother had a major impact on her life.

La Voz de un Ángel (Voice of An Angel), is Yuridia's debut album. La Voz de un Ángel was released in 2005, after the finale of La Academia, the Mexican reality show that the artist participated in. The album contains 15 songs interpreted by Yuridia during the series of concerts in the show, in which she was voted second place.
As the release of the album neared, Yuridia went on a promotional tour which took her to cities within the Mexican region, as well as the United States.
