The track is a return to Scooter's old happy hardcore style with influences from both gabber and hardcore techno.Unlike their recent work from the albums Under the Radar Over the Top and Jumping All Over the World, which has been strongly influenced by hardstyle and jumpstyle, respectively, "Friends Turbo" has a much higher BPM, easily fitting into the happy hardcore genre.
The accompanying music video for "Friends" was directed by Eric Will [3] and filmed in Paris. [citation needed] It had generated more than 14 million views on YouTube as of December 2022. Will had previously directed the video for "Move Your Ass!". The video for the release of "Friends Turbo" was filmed on location in Maaskantje.
"Kilts and Stilts" (MacLarry and the Stinky Cheese Battle) Written by Mike Nawrocki in 2013 – Larry and Scooter interrupt the narrator to begin a segment of "Silly Songs with Scottish Larry". The song begins Larry standing on stilts while singing in a Scottish accent, while Scottish food, music, quilting, and kilts are also mentioned.
In the United Kingdom, it was the band's highest-charting single in five years, reaching number 28 on the UK Singles Chart. The radio edit of the song features an extra verse, an altered opening, and an added crowd chorus near the end of the song. [2] This differs from the album edit that has only one verse and no crowd chorus.
Later releases contain only the radio edit. On the "20 Years of Hardcore" re-release, the "Alex K Remix" of the song was shorter than the original release. "Whistling Dave" samples the Russian folk song "Korobeiniki", known as the theme music from the video game Tetris, specifically the Nintendo Game Boy version.
