Martin Waddell (born 10 April 1941) is a writer of children's books from Belfast, Northern Ireland.He may be known best for his picture book texts featuring anthropomorphic animals, especially the Little Bear series illustrated by Barbara Firth (not to be confused with Minarik & Sendak's Little Bear series).
The Little Dracula book series, originally published by Walker Books and later reissued in the US through Candlewick Press, debuted in 1986. It was penned by writer Martin Waddell and illustrated by Joseph Wright; although, a joke book was written by Alan Durant with illustration by Paul Tempest. Owl Babies is a 1992 book by Martin Waddell and illustrated by Patrick Benson. It is about three owlets who wake up one night to find their mother gone. The trio worry about her absence, but are then elated when she returns from her night flight.
She has also illustrated books by other writers, including Anne Fine and Martin Waddell. Dale's illustrations for Rosie's Babies , a picture book written by Waddell which aims to introduce children to the idea of a new sibling, were shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 1990.
The book was also the overall winner of the 1988 Nestlé Smarties Book Prize.
