Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours (/ dj uː ˈ p ɒ n t, ˈ dj uː p ɒ n t / dew-PONT, DEW-pont, [1] French: [pjɛʁ samɥɛl dy pɔ̃ d(ə) nəmuʁ]; 14 December 1739 – 7 August 1817) was a French-American writer, economist, publisher and government official.
The mansion resembles a Château and contains more than seventy rooms spread over five floors occupying nearly 47,000 sq ft (4,400 m 2). The estate is owned by the Nemours Foundation. Nemours was created by Alfred I. du Pont in 1909–1910, and named for a French town affiliated with his great-great-grandfather, Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours.
Francis Irénée du Pont (December 3, 1873 – March 16, 1942) was an American chemist and executive at the E.I. du Pont de Nemours Company. He was the great grandson of its founder, Éleuthère Irénée du Pont.
