Tipton was a predominantly German-American community, in the region known as the Missouri Weinstrasse. [5] Tipton was an eastern terminus of the Butterfield Overland Mail when it was launched in 1858. The route was connected to St. Louis by the Pacific Railroad. Tipton is named for William Tipton Seely, a businessman in nearby Round Hill.

Mexico, formerly known as New Mexico, is a city in and the county seat of Audrain County, Missouri, United States. [5] It is home to the Missouri Military Academy and annually hosts the Miss Missouri Pageant. The city's population was 11,469 at the 2020 census. [6] The micropolitan statistical area consists of Audrain County.
Its eastern terminus is at U.S. Route 54 in Mexico; its western terminus is at U.S. Route 63 south of Clark on the Randolph/Boone county line. Route 22 was one of the original 1922 state highways and originally had an eastern terminus at Route 9 (now U.S. Route 61) in Louisiana. This section was replaced by U.S. Route 54 in 1926.
