Little Beaver State Park is state park in Raleigh County, West Virginia. It is located near Beckley, West Virginia, about 2 miles (3.2 km) south of I-64 at Grandview Road, exit 129A. The park sits on the shores of 18-acre (0.07 km 2) Little Beaver Lake.
The castle-like house was built for Colonel Samuel Taylor Suit of Washington, D.C. as a personal retreat near the spa town, beginning in 1885. It was not complete by the time of his death in 1888 and was finished in the early 1890s for his young widow, Rosa Pelham Suit, whom Suit had first met at Berkeley Springs, and their three children. General Alfred Beckley (1802–88) wanted his home to be the center of what he envisioned for Beckley, West Virginia which he founded in 1838. Although his town was a piece of paper in 1838, it would later become the county seat of Raleigh County, West Virginia, which was also founded by Beckley in 1850. [2]

Raleigh County is a county in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 74,591. [1] Its county seat is Beckley. [2] The county was founded in 1850 and is named for Sir Walter Raleigh. [3] Raleigh County is included in the Beckley, West Virginia, Metropolitan Statistical Area.
