Jean de Venette, author of a poem on the "History of the Three Marys," says that he visited Pierre de Nantes , bishop of Saint-Pol-de-Léon, then suffering from gout, and that the latter was healing only through the intercession of the Three Marys. The bishop then made a pilgrimage to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer in 1357. [11]
