The BYU Photo Studio began as part of the Physics Department. This was largely because it was founded by Wayne B. Hales who was a physics professor and had begun photography instruction at BYU. On September 15, 2012, BYU Salt Lake Center held their first tailgate party for the BYU vs. Utah rivalry game. Over three hundred people watched the game on an 18-foot blow up screen and ate hotdogs, BYU brownies, and washed them down with free soda provided by BYU Salt Lake.
