At the river, Paces Ferry Road enters Fulton County and the Atlanta city limits and continues to its terminus at the western end of Atlanta's Buckhead area. Here, West Paces Ferry Road continues under I-75 at mile 255, and heads east through some of Atlanta's oldest and wealthiest Buckhead neighborhoods.
East Paces Ferry Road runs as far east as Lenox Square mall, after being severed by SR 400. Paces Mill Road is a small spur route off Paces Ferry Road connecting Vinings east to Cobb Parkway (US 41/SR 3). A Battle of Pace's Ferry took place during the Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War.
The main road through the community is Paces Ferry, which runs northwestward from West Paces Ferry Road (which in turn continues west to a dead-end after Ridgewood Rd). Northside Parkway is another major road through the area, carrying U.S. 41 and State Route 3, and becoming Cobb Parkway across the river in Cumberland.
What to know: West Paces Racing owes its name to West Paces Ferry Road, a street in Buckhead (a district north of Atlanta) where Cherokee Town and Country Club is located.
Pace was born in 1785 in Anson County, North Carolina to Stephen Pace and Catherine Gatewood Buchanan. In 1809, he moved to north Georgia. The area he settled is known today as Vinings, Georgia, but at the time was known as (Pace's) Crossroads and, later, Paces (now a neighborhood of Buckhead).
Early on, Vinings was known as Crossroads, and then Paces, after Hardy Pace, circa 1830. He operated Pace's Ferry across the Chattahoochee River, in this area between Atlanta, Buckhead, and Smyrna. Paces Ferry Road is still the main east–west road through Vinings.
Directly paralleling I-75, Northside Parkway meets West Paces Ferry Road NW. The aforementioned interchange with I-75 serves as an entrance point to that road as well as Northside Parkway. Continuing north along the interstate, US 41 / SR 3 has another interchange with it, this one also provides access to Mt. Paran Road NW.
