Until 2001, Hofstra's nickname was the Flying Dutchmen (shortened to simply "Dutchmen" or "Dutch"), an homage to the Dutch heritage of university founder William S. Hofstra. [3] The Pride refer to the two lions on Hofstra's longtime logo, which school officials felt was more meaningful.
The 2020–21 Hofstra Pride men's basketball team represented Hofstra University during the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Pride were coached by Mike Farrelly, who served as acting head coach while Joe Mihalich was out on a temporary medical leave of absence. [1]
The Hofstra Pride play their games at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. They have played many games at Madison Square Garden, winning the Holiday Festival in 1998, 1999, and 2006. Hofstra is 10–9 all-time at the Garden. [2] Hofstra has also played various games at Barclays Center and the Nassau Coliseum throughout its history. [2]
