Castlemartin shield. The Castlemartin Training Area was established in 1938 [3] from both deserted and inhabited farmland, and from parts of the defunct Cawdor Estate.The ranges were abandoned by the military soon after the Second World War, but were re-instated in 1951 when the Korean War started.
Castlemartin (Welsh: Castell Martin) is a village and parish [1] [2] in the community of Stackpole and Castlemartin, Pembrokeshire, Wales, in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The village is on a sandstone ridge, 5 miles (8.0 km) southwest of Pembroke , 4 miles (6.4 km) southeast of Angle , and reached on the B4319 road .
The coastal area between Castlemartin and Stackpole Warren features sand dunes that have covered Bronze Age and Iron Age remains, as well as limestone cliffs on which prehistoric fortifications were raised. These features have benefitted from protection by military activity in the area. [7]

Castlemartin Corse is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (or SSSI) in Pembrokeshire, South Wales. It has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest since February 1985 in an attempt to protect its fragile biological elements. [1] The site has an area of 30.4 hectares (75 acres) and is managed by Natural Resources Wales.
