It is an archive which you simply have to unpack with a recent 7unzip and run the FreeCAD binary in the bin directory (may depend on the OS you use). A Sketcher Lecture with in-depth information is available in English , auf Deutsch , en français , en español .
On Ubuntu, you should have installed the daily ppa and then installed FreeCAD-Daily from that. Depending on which Ubuntu version there may be a older release version of FreeCAD in another ppa or it may be in the default repositories already a part of Ubuntu. Read the wiki for details. On Ubuntu use the ppa not the other Linux packaging systems.
This video shows by comparing incompressible flow with compressible flow why a compressible physics model must be used to calculate the vibrational behaviour of an air column. Freecad CfdOF can address a solver (“buoyantPimpleFoam”) that can calculate a compressible physics model, but test calculations showed that the solution will not ...
Writing an importer in freecad is actually pretty easy. The hard part is to understand well the format that you wish to import... Some formats (for example dxf, obj) have good documentation, other (most proprietary formats) keep it very secret, making it very hard or almost impossible to understand...
Moreover, FreeCAD has taken inspiration from many CAD programs, and each of them uses their own terminology; it could be called a model, a group, a part, an assembly, a collection, a container, a product, etc. Taking a single term is not so important but rather the behavior of those objects; how are they supposed to be used, what properties ...
Hello FreeCAD users, I just installed 0.21 and it worked flawlessly until today when using Sketcher and PartDesign. I wanted to use an image for tracing but I couldn't find the image workbench.
So it's definitely not feasible, it would drain all of FreeCAD resources for nothing. Besides, some companies put patents on their formats which could expose FreeCAD to legal threat. In the case of OCC's parasolid importer, the OCC core engine, that we use in FreeCAD, is open-source, but they also sell several "add-ons", such as this one.
I did also try exporting a SAT file from Fusion and importing it into FreeCAD using InventorLoader, which didn't bring over the sketches either. However, the format of the SAT file looks extremely similar to one of the formats inside the f3d archive.
